George INKSON b. ABT 1735 Kings Lynn, Norfolk

It is difficult to piece together family history from [sparse] early records so this part of the family tree should be treated with caution even though the data presented comes from images of original records.

We have assumed that George, the father of Thomas [b. 1772], was the George born to George and Elizabeth Inkson née Metcalf. George senior was almost certainly the George Inkson, butcher of Kings Lynn, who took on two apprentices in 1743. In due course, George junior was also described as a butcher on the bond when he wanted to marry his second wife, Margaret, by licence.

We know that George first married an Alice Harris but there are two possible Alices born in Norfolk at the right time to be his wife, as is discussed in the note for Alice on the family group page. The existence of one of George's children is only known from her burial record and she too was an Alice. She has been placed on these pages as a daughter of George and Alice although there is just a chance that she was a daughter of George and Margaret.

When Alice died, George quickly married again, this time a Margaret Chapman. Again there are two possible Margarets born in Norfolk at the right time to be his wife. That is discussed in the note for Margaret.

The tree below has two trunks because of the two marriages. At this stage [late October 2020] the only trees that are shown below this level are those of William [b. ABT 1756] and his half-brother Thomas [b. 1772]. A lot of work is required to investigate what happened to the other children that survived beyond infancy, in particular the third George of George and Alice who - potentially - may have been the start of another part of the Inkson tree.
