George INKSON b. ABT 1710 Kings Lynn, Norfolk
It is difficult to piece together family history from [sparse] early records so this part of the family tree should be treated with caution even though some of the data presented comes from images of original records. Data where no reliable source has been viewed is presented in red font.
We know about George because of his marriages and children, there is no certainty as to when he was born or who his parents were. One candidate that we are aware of is Gorg [presumably George], son of Thomas and Margaret Inkson, baptised in St Nicholas' on 30 Mar 1710. However, other researchers report a George, son of George and Alice Inkson, born in Kings Lynn in 1704 although no sources are cited.
There are two George Inkson marriages of relevance to George Inkson b. ABT 1710 :
- A George Inkson married a Lucy Richardson - both single 'of Lynn Regis' - at Bagthorpe [NE of Lynn] in 1728. However, Lucy was dead two years later.
- A George Inkson, widower of Kings Lynn, married Elizabeth Metcalf, spinster of Swaffham, at Swaffham [SE of Lynn] in 1733.
For the purposes of developing this tree it has been assumed that the two Georges are one and the same.
Lucy must have come from a relatively family : the records include an assignment of a piece of land by William Richardson, millwright of Kings Lynn to George Inkson, butcher of Kings Lynn, provided that Lucy Inkson, George's wife, did not die without issue during her father's lifetime. The question of issue was therefore very important. We can find no record of George and Lucy having any children but other researchers claim that they had a son called George born 10 March 10 1729, dying 3 days later. The problem is that the land assignment is said to be dated 1730 so even if there was a baby George in 1729, he is being discounted in terms of the proviso.
George and Elizabeth had at least two children, probably three and possibly six. Of the six children shown on the tree, only the baptism records for George, Thomas and Elizabeth have been seen and the baptism record for George only lists his father as George, no mother's name is given so it is an [albeit well supported] assumption that he is a child of this marriage. The other three records come from the Norfolk Family History Society. Details of each reference is given on the relevant note on the family group page.
The tree below has two trunks because of the two marriages. At this stage [mid-November 2020] the only tree that is shown below this level are that of George [b. ABT 1735].
George, who was a butcher, died in mid-1753. He died intestate so his probate record is a very full list of his assets.
