Welcome to www.inkson.family.name, the web headquarters of the INKSON family!
This is not a secure domain [it doesn't need to be as there is no data storage] so if you don't see a 'pretty' page your browser has added an 's' to the address. Check that you are looking at http://inkson.family.name [and not https:// etc...].
A major update programme has been taking place in 2020 so a record of updates to the domain has been added. It can be accessed via the main menu below. A completely new section containing navigable trees and indices of individuals to be found on the domain was added in late 2020. You can access the section via the main menu below but it is very much a work in progress. It is also [slowly] being added to pop-up menus throughout the site.
Over time we hope to build up quite a bit of data about various parts of the family. The first part to be posted was the family of Thomas Harborow Inkson, a man from Norfolk in England who was born in 1835. He has many descendents of course but the two main groups carrying the Inkson name seem to be the 'New Zealand' Inksons and the 'Southampton' or 'Union Castle' Inksons. Thanks to ready access to the British Census data for the 1800's we now know that Thomas Harborow had another son who established the 'Norwich' Inksons. Following that discovery, much of the material on the descendents of Thomas Harborow had to be updated - and more mysteries needed resolving. You can read the story of how the 'Forgotten Son' was found.
Thanks to that census data we also found out about Thomas Harborow's parents and siblings and were able to build up a picture of the Inksons in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, at the start of the 19th century and more of their descendents. The original section was therefore pushed back a generation to become that for the descendents of William [Thomas Harborow's father] and two new sections were added below : a section on those early Kings Lynn Inksons and another on the descendents of John Inkson, a brother of William and therefore uncle to Thomas Harborow, who established the Inksons in Grimsby and further north.
The section on the English census records covers much more than the Inksons with Kings Lynn origins and others are being added all the time as they are identified [indexing is not a perfect science]. There is an important group in Chichester, Sussex and a few in London. Scottish Inksons also appear from time to time as they come south seeking work and settling down.If you have some information about these or other parts of the family then we would be pleased to hear from you and to help you post your part of the story on to this web site even if it is not obvious how you information fits with the rest. Just email us using the facility below.
The site is a mixture of genealogy data and more subjective material about some of the characters involved. If you would like to see some aspect covered more fully or another aspect of the family included then please let us know.
