Ida Lilian was the oldest child of Henry William Helsdon and his wife Martha Harriett née Inkson, so a descendent of the 1801 Inkson - Harborow marriage through William and then Thomas Harborow Inkson. There is no baptism record but her date of birth is available from the 1939 England Register.

She married Victor Alberto Fertig, a hairdresser, on 26 Dec 1907 in Thornham parish church. They lived in Knaphill, Surrey and had two children spaced well apart, perhaps in part because of WW I.
