William Alfred Inkson was born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England but then went to London as a young man from where he emigrated to New Zealand. He was the second son of the Thomas Harborow and Martha Inkson. His grandfather was therefore William Inkson b. ABT 1804 and his great-grandfather Thomas Inkson b. ABT 1772 who married Ann Harborow in 1801.
In 1881 he was working in London as a carpet salesman for a furniture company. When he got to New Zealand he joined AJ White's furniture company in Christchurch on South Island. In due course he was wooing Mary, Mr White's daughter, but her family didn't approve. It was only after Mr White died that William Alfred and Mary were married. They went on to have at least six children from which most of the Inksons in New Zealand descend.
[There is Professor Kerr Inkson at the University of Auckland Business School but he is a Scottish Inkson and hence on a completely different branch of the family tree.]
The problem with New Zealand records is that they are embargoed so it is not possible to be precise in the same way that one can be in England. Bear this in mind when reviewing these branches of the tree.
