Henry was the second son of Thomas I... and Mary née Turnbull. Unlike his older brother, a watchmaker, Henry did marry and have a family - albeit a small family by the standards of the time - but neither of his children married so this particular branch of the Inkson family withered on the vine.

The family appear together in every census of the 19^th century where Henry and subsequently George H, are recorded as bookbinders.
